UPDATE 9/1- trace loves this whole birthday thing. he received:
a nerf gun with glow in the dark amunition
a battery powered-talking-and-moving loader (skidsteer)
a star-wars light-saber (sword)
a toy 4-wheeler
a gi joe guy (with weapons)
a toy combine
a automan outfit (i bought it in china when i was there in june)
he put his automan outfit on immediatly upon receiving it and only took it off to go swimming (at which point it was thrown in the washer for maximum efficiency). he is having a marvelous time with all these fun things :).

we celebrated trace's birthday today, since our grandparents who live a few hours away were here. so both sets (the other set lives down the road) came over for pizza (with mushrooms, trace's favorite), presents (lots) and cake. i am uploading video... i think trace's first american birthday was a hit!

grandma and grandpa (mother's parents) are in town for a few days, so this morning they went to the zoo with trace and jade. but they really didn't have to go to see animals... because we have a new kitten- isn't it cute? (it's chewing on my toes, currently...)

at the fair
the children love the fair. there were two fairs around us, a week apart- so they've spent plenty of time seeing pigs, riding rides and eating acquiring fun head bands. it is too bad that there aren't fairs every week of the year!

sunset at the beach
yesterday while i was home uploading pix and video (amongst other things), some of the rest of the family (mother, father, trent, trace and jade) went to visit our aunt, uncle and their four daughters who live a few hours away. they got to play with our cousin willow who is a few months younger than trace and jade. after saying goodbye to them, they went to the beach at lake michigan. and the children loved it :).

family pictures
we did it.
we had a couple who do photography come over to take our family pictures. they did our pictures 4 or 5 years ago- before the children came. those were the pix we sent to china with jade's dossier. we had more "informal" family pix sent to china for trace.
so anyways, we were interested to see how it would be to have the SEVEN of us sit for them. i tagged along with my digital camera, and some of what i (and a couple by trent) took can be seen below. i don't have any of all of us- those will be coming later, when the couple gets them developed and all.
the ones of just trace and jade were taken first, and neither was sure they really wanted to get these pictures taken, even after all the hype :). hopefully there will be one or two that are "good enough". interestingly, depsite her very outgoing personality, jade is not especially photogenic. and trace would always rather be doing something else...
