monday
so after writing yesterdays post i went upstairs and was greeted by mr. happiness... all the pix below were taken shortly thereafter... he LOVES his new toys and dvds! he is really funny and i'm sure would be even funnier if we knew what he was saying (he can really talk)... his first english word is "uh-oh". and that's about all he knows so far. carol, yes, i can talk to him... ask him what he wants/doesnt want, and i understand when he tells me he needs to go to the bathroom, etc. he also understands 'wo buzhidao' ( i dont know!)- comes in handy when i am less than competent concerning the dvd player :)...
trace is doing better and better w/ mama, although he refuses to call her that, referring to her as 'ayi' ('auntie'). he still wont hold her hand if i'm available, but he will play w/her and let her touch him. he slept immaculately thru the nite again last nite (mother and i, on the other hand, did not. we are going to have to find more sleeping pills if this contuniues... it's not jet lag, but for whatever reason neither of us sleep well). he also DOES NOT like the room we eat breakfast in. he cries silently while we eat and refuses to eat himself. today i brought up a yogurt from the breakfast which he enhaled once in the room. he also gets alot quieter and shy when we go places. i'm sure he can hear people talk about us... and him... for dinner last nite we went to kfc- they had a small play place (basically just a slide) and he and a little girl played on that for quite a while. he had fun with that. he is not much of a morning person- he wakes up pretty quiet and just wants to watch a dvd! i don't know if we'll be taking him to breakfast w/us again. i think he'll be ok once we get to a new hotel- he just HATES the restaurant here!
we havent had any big meltdowns since the ones i mentioned yesterday. this is good :).
mother & i are doing ok... we're not eating alot (hence having issues with pants fitting) and so last nite we both felt pretty bad. this and not sleeping is not good... but we are surviving. we figure it never hurts to loose a little weight :).
it is cooler here today and yesterday... kinda dreary, too. i think we're visiting a temple of somekind today... we leave in about an hour. hopefully our guide will take us somewhere good for lunch, too and hopefully we can find a phone card or international sim card for my phone so we can CALL HOME tonite.
i guess that's about it for today. we're loving the comments!!! keep them coming!
best wishes.
ps. father: glad to hear you guys are doing ok... trace is big enough to take jade. now we have 2 dvd players so hopefully that will solve a few probelms (or will it create some?)... it will be interesting to see what she thinks about his selections.
OH! gcc folk! yesterday we were playing with playdough and i was squishing it about and i guess what i made kinda looked like a microphone b/c trace took it and started to sing into it- just like antoher trace we know :). i wish i would have got pix/video of that- it was too funny! (also- he, like jason, likes new socks; we learned this last nite.) anyhoo... :)

Sounds like things are settling in much better. What a handsome young man he is when he smiles. Enjoy the rest of your trip, and eat some food. You don't need to lose any weight. ;o)
Hey-talked to Jim tonight. Sounds like they're doing great! Trent made marinated/bbq pork chops for dinner! I'm impressed! Emily was over, so Jade was happy! It's FRIGID here. 10 below tonight, and windy--3-6 inches of snow tomorrow night! ARGH! I was at Meijer today and think I saw the dirt bike with pipes! Gotta have it! Try to rest, and eat. You'll feel better. Ha--like you don't know that! My new job is not happening for now. Change of plans by administration. So-I'm back with Dennis for tomorrow and the forseeable future. THat's ok. Love your pix and blogs. I check every few hours! I have too much time on my hands? Lowell's in GR hospital waiting for treatment. Elaine's mother died--LONG illness, now she's in heaven. Good luck-you're in our prayers! Carol and boys
