pandas, shopping, mcdonalds...

(sorry there arent more trace pix for today...)
(ok, where are all my comments?? i know the last post was relatively boring, but still :)...)
this morning trace actually ate a yogurt at breakfast (he calls it yogurt- i guess this word is international) and didn't cry!
then we went to see the pandas (karen: !!!). we got very close and got lots of pictures... they are well taken care of- there is one there who is 25 human years old, which is 100 panda years (kinda like dog years). we also got to see malaysian bears (which look like a rotwiler/shar pei mix in bear format) and these smaller panda-ish creatures that look like racoons. it was a very nice place... even the bathrooms were nice- as squatty potties go- although there was an opening in the stall door that i am almost tall enough to see out of, and could have seen out of if i had been walking in... and there were windows behind... good ventilation? i guess it was forunate that there wasnt a crowd!)
then we went shopping- trace doesnt like the socks we brought, so we had to get some of those, as well as a few shirts and some underwear. he does not like anything that fits close or at all tight... we tried pajamas last nite and ended up changing him into soft pants and a tshirt... same with the socks, they are too 'tight'.
next it was off to mcdonalds. now you that know mother and i know that we do not like mcdonalds. we will usually go out of our way to avoid eating there. but today, nothing could have been more welcome (with the exception of home made macaroni and cheese :)... or a good ole bowl of rice chex with sliced banana and 2% milk :)...) anyhoo, they had a play place where trace played with a few other children- 2 boys who are about his age and a little girl who appeared a bit younger.
needless to say, after walking no less than 783 miles at panda world, plus shopping and playing at md's, he was ready for his nap :).
i believe i uploaded a picture of trace and his beloved potato chips. they are similar to pringles. he eats these and washes them down with gatoraid :). he also loves french fries, and will eat bananas as well. yesterday we bought some down the street from the hotel as well as some more bottled water and gatoraid.
someone (lesa or carol) asked if we will meet trace's foster parents: no. he was way too attached for that to be beneficial. we will be visiting the orphange on thursday (is that tomarrow?).
trace is now letting mama pick him up and haul him around (until her arms get tired... he gets heavy fast) and hold his hand. i think this started yesterday... until that point, he would only let me pick him up or hold his hand. progress?!
i think that's about it... best wishes :).

Comments:
Hello from the Yukon! We are home again today. It is frigid-below 0 overnight, and we got 7 in of snow last night. It all dropped over Harrison, as we are the only school closed. The sun is out now, and Tom has already snowblowed ours and the neighbors driveways. Those pandas are WAY cool! Sounds like you are getting along well. I checked your itinerary and it seems like you have free time now for a couple days. I hope Trace is a good tourist! The clothes issues are VERY common. Clif's children are particular about fabrics, and things not touching them, etc. Sounds like Lowell is having a rough time. He's having more surgery I think, maybe tomorrow. Hope you're sleeping better--Trace too. Does he have his own bed? Are the beds full size, or what? they look small in the pix. Have a great time! Love Carol

Lorrenna and Kelsey,

Sounds like you are making big steps forward with Trace. Wahoo.

All your stories sure bring back memories.
Elizabeth and sensory quirks. I always wondered if Elizabeth felt her life was so out of control with changes that she had no control over that she just couldn't handle the little things that seemed different to her or things that didn't normally bug her drove her over the edge (when she was in this transition time)Like clothes, food touching on a plate etc, etc, At first Elizabeth could not wear any clothes below her knee and elbow. Imagine my shock when we were home in good ole Mi and noticed how she had to keep her coat and snow pants pushed up above her elbow and knees!! Even at zero below. No amount of tugging it down would work as she would immediately put it back to where she had it. Lets just say we didn't spend much time outside that first winter.

Trace was very fortunate and blessed to be in a foster home. I agree with you guys...it is way to hard to bring them back during the transition time and you have come so far with him in attachment.

Kelsey it is so great that you can talk to Trace. I wish I could have done that Elizabeth. I think it would have saved her a lot of meltdowns and heart ache. You are such a blessing to Trace.

On a side note Elizabeth thinks the helmet is "way to cool" and we should go to China and get one!

Love the pictures! The stories make us feel like we are in China again.

Kelsey,
I agree will Sue....what a nice thing you have been able to do with learning Chinese.
I would love to learn a few more phrases so we can calm Mylie no matter what age she is.
I had asked your mother over the phone who the caucasion man was in the background photo you received from the SWI of Trace. I agree it would be way to hard to have taken him to meet the Foster Family.
I guess it was someone other than me that asked that question.

Take care and keep the photos coming. This has shown me one thing my Blog will be a great way to share our story. I don't have the wide format that you do though. I wonder how I can change that. Hummm.

Hello from NJ! We have snow today and 23 degrees. We have loved following your journey to Trace and so happy that your postings are now coming from China! Not sure your Mom remembers, but Anna Grace totally rejected me the first week we had her. It was SO hard for me. Of course she came around just in time for the 22 hour plane ride home. She ONLY wanted me by then. Trace is adorable! Enjoy your time in China and thanks for the blog. My Mom is following it too. She traveled with us the first time to China and has very fond memories. Take care,
Gina Sorrells

Hi. My last post ended up under the 1:44am post from you...hope this one ends up in the right place! I was wondering (since Trace is ONE day older than Katey), how tall is he and how much does he weigh? I know he's a boy so there will be a difference but just curious.
