rollerycoasteryday

whoa buddy, where to begin? i have many words to use today, and it's only 2:30 in the afternoon so i have some energy for typing!!!
first, thanks for ALL the comments! keep them coming!!
well. last nite trace had a meltdown before bed... but eventually climbed in (with me) and went to sleep pretty quickly. he got up 2 times to use the bathroom- no fuss, he just got up, went in there and laid back down, and went to sleep. he would sit there for a minute... thinking... no tears, just thoughts.
we got up at maybe between 7 and 730 this morning and went to breakfast... he finally ate: but only a few bites of a roll and a sip of juice... then he had another mama/baba meltdown ([m/b m] from now on) and we had to go back to the room. we managed to change his shirt into one of ours and we played some... the legos were a definate hit. he also enjoyed a popup book we got- we actually got a smile and laugh out of that (although i have no photographic evidence, trust me :)...) then we had to go to the civil affairs office to do papers... lets just say we were there an hour longer than we should have. we had 2 [m/b m]'s... there were just too many people, too much talking about him, too little do to, too much tension and too many raised voices etc, etc, etc... to make a long story short, we barley got out of there with him. i wont go into details, but the lady going over the papers was not pleased. fortunately there was a man there who seems very kind and easy going... at any rate, after 2 meltdowns and lots of frustration we got out. we then went to have everything notarized- this step was almost over before it started. then we enjoyed our first squatty potty of the trip (thankfully, i am a seasoned pro... except that there was an OPEN WINDOW behind the potty...). then we went to wal*mart. wal*mart here does not sprawl, it goes up. they have these WAY COOL escalaters that take carts up (they are basically an incline that moves). i REALLY wonder why we do not have such devices in the us. they would be a hit. anyhoo, i have learned a new spelling for spoiled boy: Trace. we bought him some toys... father, trevor, trent & jade you will not believe this. they had 4wheelers like jade's only with pipes. trace went right up to it and we got a little 'wo yao' out of it :). we ALMOST bought it... except then we'd have to haul it across the globe, etc. hopefully you can have one up and running for him when we get home, b/c he's definately interested. also, he gave a big 'wo yao' (translation: i want) out of the radio controlled cars (the bigger the better), and the war-esque action figures... which we bought, in addition to a remote controlled front end loader and this other toy that i really cant describe... i'll have to take a picture... it's way cool. they hooked us up w/some batteries and we headed to electronics. we are now the proud owners of teletubbies in mandrain AND english, chinese transformers (remind me way too much of power rangers) and a brand new portable dvd player with headphones. trace is watching this in the pix below... he loves it :). we can also use it on the plane. although the battery only has 2 hours, i think the flight attendants will give into the cuteness and let us charge it :). it will also get us from fuzhou to guangzhou easily (leigh: we fly to gz on friday, home on wednesday). we had HUGE paying issues: most notably the credit card that mother called to register FIVE times is still not activated. eventually we got it all worked out... and then we got caught in the security of the store- apparently one of our purchases didn't get scanned (more excitement!)... anyhoo... our guide also walked thru the food part of the store and had him wo yao/bu yao (bu=no) what he wanted. we ended up with pringles, gatoraid, yogurt and candy. reminds me of trent. check out took so long that he ate 1/4 of the pringles and drank about the same amount of the gatoraid.
then we got in a taxi to come back to the hotel. it was very exciting. some people would find it harrowing, but i kinda enjoyed it. if our driver writes a book about how to get where you are going in 50% of the time, i will definately buy it. he was awesome :).
we then returned to our room and ate 1/2 a muffin each (we had the other 1/2 for lunch yesterday...) and then the poor cleaning lady came... you should have seen the room... covered in toys, water bottles, kleenexes (i'm blowing my nose pretty much nonstop), pillows, i'm sure you get the picture... so we just accepted some clean towels :).
trace is still not huge into mama, but i think we're getting a little better. he lets her touch her, and while i was in the bathroom, let her hold his hand. i am still the person of choice by far. he can REALLY talk (in chinese)- he made the guide laugh- more, more, more from wal*mart was requested :). he's into alot of the same toys as his brothers, but didnt seem overly interested in the soccer balls, etc offered to him (although the ping pong mallet caught his attention). i think i will have toned arm muscles when i get home...he is so much thicker than jade... and i carry him around, or he will walk and hold my hand. he is also patient- doesnt complain when we have to wait for wal*mart check out, etc. he seems pretty easy going and good natured... even his tantrums really arent that bad (when you are comparing to a jade fit). umm... oh! we met another family who are here getting their second cleft lip/palalte child. they brought an aunt this time- you know, to help w/the kids and take pictures. they went to the acrobat show in beijing and fell in the stands and broke her arm. according to her, the medical staff in beijing is excellent! somehow she is managing to still take pictures :).
ALRIGHT- that is my novel for today!! i'm loving the comments- keep them coming... keep praying that trace will come around... he's frimly mine, but not mama's yet- except for legally :)... i left them in the room to type this, hopefully everything's ok :).
best wishes.

You two/three are troopers. Surely Trace will come around with all those goodies coming home from the store for him! Have you heard from the group in Edwardsburg? I'm thinking of them this am--1st day for Papa to get them to school with Jade in tow! Yikes! Hoping you are able to call them or something! Skiing was great. A little more lake effect snow today. A note from A.Vi says LOTS of snow in GR this weekend! Maybe for Niles too? Good luck with the melt downs! And the paperwork! Love you all....Carol PS--Trace is WAY too cute!

Kelsey, are you able to talk to trace at all-in chinese-so that he can understand what's going on? Can he talk to you and help you understand what's going on in his little brain? Hope so! I'm thinking of you ALL the time! Give Lorenna my love! Carol

Hey Kelsey,

Sounds like a fun filled day. LOL
He will come around to his new mamma.
Sorry you are having some melt downs, but that is to be expected.
Take care....it even sounds like Jade is doing well in the States.
Jim, you are very brave to take on Jades little friends. Sounds like she played enough to make her sleep well.

Lesa
